Work with Gypsy Vanners!

Work with Gypsy Vanners!

This is a fantastic opportunity for a young or old person who is energetic and above all else LOVES horses. AND what better horse to love than the gypsy vanners. They simply are amazing to work with and such willing horses.

Brightwater Gypsy Vanners is the largest breeders of gypsy vanner in New Zealand and has incredible horses. Just ask Mikey a true Romany gypsy himself, now living in New Zealand who spent a week on our farm. He was taken back by the horses we had and the excellent quality with bone and feather and the progeny that was being produced. He said it was a herd that a true gypsy would be scrambling to own.

Having some past experience with horses would be a great help, but not necessary, but must not be a timid person around horses, but kind with a firm demeanour. Horses work well with good, strong leadership. As well as horses you will learn about alternative foods, alternative healing methods and alternative building techniques as well as enjoy and care for beautiful gypsy vanner horses. Looking for someone to stay as a long term engagement but understand if things do not work out then one must move on.

You must be fit or willing to get fit and not expect to be riding horses all the time. Ninety percent of most stud farms is about caring for and training the horses. If you think it is about riding horses then you will be disappointed. However, we do ride the horses and if I had more help I am sure I would ride more often as it is such a pleasure. Also I have advertised for farm help which means you will help with daily farm chores.

If you are willing to learn, can work well un-supervised and prepared to get you hands dirty, like a more quiet lifestyle then this is the place for you. If you are a person who carries a cell phone around with you checking text messages all day, then this is not for you. Would suit someone who is looking for a long term break or holiday from their life or a young person who wants a different, unique experience. We also have 700 metres of river front that is great for swimming in the summer.

All food and board is paid for and if the arrangement works out a vehicle is available at your running cost. A computer is available or bring your own, but we can not get broadband here, nor do we have a TV.

Your Accomodation

Your Accomodation

When you stay here at Brightwater Gypsy Farm you will have you very own cottage to sleep in as pictured below. It has a double bed with a warm/cool 90% down duvet and a sandfly screen...we have very few, if none, mosquitos here. There is a corner work desk with drawers to put your clothes and things in. There is also a computer in there but needs to be set up to work and I just have not had time to do it yet. So if you are clever, it could be quite easily resurrected.
